Pure Churchillian

Winston Churchill was voted the greatest ever Briton in 2002, in a poll conducted by the British Broadcasting Corporation. He saw off fierce competition from many other worthy characters. He held Britain together during the 2nd World War with his solid and charismatic leadership style. His use of the English language in a eloquent and matter of fact way was renowed. When visiting the vast naval base that was HMS Helicon (Loch Ewe) in 1939 he said:

“This is a God fearing community and every should behave whilst ashore.”

As the naval personnel out numbered the locals during the war, on a ratio of 3:1, these were wise words.
