Crackly

Rough!

Ageing isn’t a process which is kind to humans and either is it kind to landscapes and coastlines. Strictly speaking it isn’t weathering which has given this rock it’s aged look but the way it cooled with it first formed. The rock type is Basalt, similar to the Giants Causeway in Northern Ireland.

The stretch of coastline between Flodigarry and Balmacqueen in NE Skye is littered with caves and stunning sea cliffs carved out of basalt rock making it a classly piece of coastline for the discerning sea kayaker.

I'm currently writing a sea kayaking guidebook for the Northwest Highlands; Cape Wrath to Ardnamurchan Point including Skye & the Small Isles. This blog will keep you updated as to my progress and hopefully the blog and in turn the book will inspire you experience the Northwest Highlands by sea kayak yourself.
