Sea kayaking isn’t all about paddling along interesting coastlines on sunny days or tide race adrenaline action. A large chunk of the ‘experience’ is about the pre and post water experience. This usually revolves around two key ingredients; drink and food along with good company.

So for those reasons the guidebook is going to contain many references to places where you can get a decent cup of tea, good pint or a fine meal. But in order to make reference to these places, it’s my duty as a responsible author to sample their wares for you the reader.

Last weekend was a foul weekend with snow squalls driven by an icy Northernly gale force wind. Not sea kayaking weather, so Saturday was spent cruising around the county of Sutherland checking out some eating places. Well how else is a sea kayaking guidebook author to make best use of a foul day?
