Changing Forecasts

Mr Cree

The Met Office have decided to spilt in half the inshore weather forecast area covering the same area as the Northwest Highlands guidebook. The local fisherman’s group lobbied for the change as they felt the Ardnamurchan Point to Cape Wrath forecast didn’t always reflect the weather around Skye in particular. The new areas:

“Ardnamurchan Point to Cape Wrath excluding the Minches”
A line from Lochinver to the Butt of Lewis, the west coast of the
Outer Hebrides and the Sea of the Hebrides from South Uist to the
west coast of Rhum.

“Minches from Rhum and South Uist to the Butt of Lewis & Lochinver”
The Sea of the Hebrides north from South Uist, including the Isle of
Skye, Mallaig, Kyle of Lochalsh and up to Lochinver on the mainland
side and the Butt of Lewis.

The new forecasts are only available via VHF radio maritime safety information broadcasts made by Stornoway Coastguard at present. Let’s hope the Met Office decide to make these more detailed forecasts available on the web at some point soon.

That sounds great! We could also do with a separate Firth of Clyde forecast as the North Channel in the current “Mull of Galloway to Mull of Kintyre” frequently has different weather.

    Nice shot of Gars-Bheinn BTW!

    :o )

I would agree - the Firth of Clyde & North Channel are two seperate areas really.

The shot of Richard was at the start of a cracking day’s padding around Soay.
